I am a returning Wellness Challenge participate. I have Loved the last three months, really I can't see my life any other way. I have wanted to lose weight and be healthy for a Long time. I've tried and stopped. Nothing seems to push me hard enough. This challenge seemed to pull at my heart, saying I can do this for Me. I can be healthy for Me with such a few simple life changes. I can choose a 3 month challenge for a life time of healthiness. I am looking forward to all the new changes the next 3 months has instore.

My name is Sara and I am a stay at home mom and substitute teacher at my girls' school.  I have a great husband who makes me laugh a ton.  This year we will celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary!  We have 2 sweet daughters, 6 and 9 1/2 years old.  Let's not forget the two dogs that get me out of bed every morning at 5 for my 45 minutes of exercise...Sadie and Waldo!

I am doing this challenge because I am finishing a wellness challenge right now and don't want to stop.  When I started the first challenge I thought it would be nearly impossible to kick my sweet tooth yet I have managed to make it through my birthday and Christmas without even one cookie!  It was kind of nice to have an "excuse" when I was offered goodies.  After nearly 3 months I am in the habit of journaling, reading, eating the veggies/fruit, drinking the water....and everything else also.

I want to do it to lose weight and be healthy.  I have alot of things I would love to accomplish.  Maybe this will push me a little.

We are doing this together so we can get healthy.  We have tried various other programs, but this one really sounds like it will be the one to succeed.  I believe goals are important and when you have a team of friends striving for the same purpose, then how can we not succeed.

I am acutely aware that as much as I adore being a mom, since becoming one six and a half years ago, I have not focused on my own well-beingnearly enough. There seems to always be something"more important" to do.

This wellness challenge is a wonderful opportunity for me to be reminded that I need to take better care of my physical health, my fitness and my spiritual health.  My hope is to improve in my commitment to exercise, my health and taking time out to do things that bring me more spiritual joy.
My goal is not perfection, only to improve in as many ways as I can and to savor what the process of taking better care of myself brings me.

No doubt, taking better care of myself will make me a better example
for my daughter. And in doing so, I hope she will grow up to know that she deserves to give herself the space, time and energy to live in wellness.

I have just finished my second challenge, and am going for a trifecta! I've lost 40 pounds in the last 6 months, and am working feverishly to remain motivated to maintain this weight loss. I am also excited to continue writing in my journal and accomplishing some amazing daily goals. For some reason these challenges really work for me - the combination of accountability and motivation from the other people participating. Here's to another 3 months of healthy living!

Don W.     Lake Arrowhead, Ca

I am doing the wellness challenge because I like a good challenge that keeps me on track, living a lifestyle that is healthy and productive.  And it helps me stay in shape to keep up with seven terrific grandchildren (with number eight on the way). When Jen threw down the gauntlet, I could not help but pick it up and run with it.  Time constraints, outside commitments, and weather (snow and heavy rain) have been occasional obstacles to completing every category every day in the last challenge, but the discipline and accountability have been good.  So, I look forward to this next three months.

Melanie: I am excited to participate in this challenge because I will be doing it with my daughter and I want to be more healthy in 2010. I like the well rounded approach to this challenge. It's not just about losing weight or eating healthier, but it is about improving my overall health; mind and body.
Sarah: I want to participate in this challenge because I want to lead a healthier lifestyle and be motivated to exercise more.

Caitlyn K.     Antelope, Ca

My names Caitlyn Kolonis, but folks call me Cate. I'm doing this challenge because Jen's my second mom and I do what she says since I pretty much live at her house on the weekends :) I love her bunches and I want to support her in her challenge and the decisions she makes. I've been following her blog and have been asking questions about her challenge since November. Her blog is an app on my iPhone :) She asked me to do the challenge with her this time around and I'm excited. I think it sounds like a great idea to just have a daily goal, this challenge will help me learn to treat myself and others better. It's my chance to become a better me, to dive into a completely healthy life style and to embrace my relationship with God, family, and friends.

Kim B.     Redlands, Ca

I am Jen's sister and I am returning to the Wellness Challenge. Or shall I say I am starting over. I started the one in Nov and was on the right track, then I fell off the wagon. I do not have quite the willpower as my awesome sis. Although I did make a lot of great changes in my life. I am looking forward to this challenge and sticking with it. I have dealt with some health issues in the past few years and I am finally getting things under control. This challenge is going to help me continue on an overall healthier path. Thanks sis for continuing to challenge me!

Michelle W.     Roseville, Ca

The main reason that I am participating in this challenge is to conquer my life-long sweet tooth, and to achieve balance in my life with regards to reading and journaling (something I have not done consistently).  I am not trying to achieve perfection since black and white thinking has gotten me into trouble in the past with my weight and eating, but I hope to achieve a happy, healthy medium of physical, emotional, and spiritual health.  I have always been active, but I know that with better eating and balance, I will get even more benefit from my workouts.   I have a list of my personal goals that I will strive for each week and am ready to go!  Congratulations to all who are participating, regardless of if you win or not!

Since losing my father last year, it has given me a new perspective on life.  I want to be around for my family and I know I need God, accountability and a way to learn how to change from the inside out.  With that in mind, I have started back on Jenny Craig and adding in this 3 month wellness challenge is just what I need to stay on track.  Thank you Jen for being such a great inspiration for so many of us.

My name is Carmie and I'm joining this challenge because I need the extra help in kicking the "munchie attacks"!!  I really like the idea of this challenge, as I know it will help keep me on track with my exercising and healthier habits.  I need all the motivation I can get!  I want to lead the lifestyle of a "healthier me", both mind and spirit and I know I can with this program!!  Thanks and here's to a healthy start for 2010!!

Margie R.     Sacramento, Ca

I was in great shape and I let myself go...but it’s now time to make a change. I am a singer and aside from the talent, image is everything.  My goal is to feel great when I am performing not self conscience.  Plus I am tired of not having any energy or discipline.

Tonja F.     Rocklin, Ca

I need something to jump-start (again!) a healthier way of living, mainly in the area of eating. I am 32 years old and have always struggled with being at least a little overweight. Although I have lost weight (with diet and exercise) twice before, it seems harder and harder as I get older to find the motivation. Nothing like a good ol' challenge to do that for me! And for those interested in my daily journaling, I'll be doing it on my public blog: tonjarene.blogspot.com

Margie R.     Citrus Heights, Ca

Hi my name is Margie and I am the mom of 2 beautiful daughters, Jadyn 6 and Delaney 3.  My husband, Jason, of 10 years, is very supportive and keeps me motivated.  I have been teaching the past 16 years and am currently teaching kindergarten in the San Juan School District.

This is my first wellness challenge and I am extremely excited!  I am ready for 2010 to be the year I take care of myself!  Like most busy moms there is always something to do and exercising and eating right is not always a priority.  I’m ready for that to change.  I’m up for the challenge (and also very competitive).

Ellen and Brent S.     Antelope, Ca

Picture
We have decided to participate in the challenge because we're trying to do something that will motivate our desire for a healthier lifestyle, in every way! Between juggling the needs of our five children... work... meals... laundry... laundry... and did I mention laundry... etc. It seems we are finding less time to do some of the things that we know will keep us energized so we give them our best! We are excited to do this together, because it will be much easier to stay on track (we hope)! Especially if one of us isn't pulling the ice cream out of the freezer at 10 p.m.! We look forward to a little friendly competition, and plan on the next three months being a time of positive results, that will lead to lasting lifestyle changes! Let the fun begin!!!

Kim S.     Orangevale, Ca

I am participating in this next Wellness Challenge so I can continue the momentum I have started with the previous challenge.  I do not want to lose any ground...I have worked sooooo hard learning new habits and trying to change my lifestyle for the better.  I owe it to myself and my family to be the best self I can be, and I know I am on to something here.  I also LOVE the support system we have all created for each other these last 3 months.  My biggest challenge for these next 12 weeks will be to get 45 minutes of exercise in EVERY day.  I think the rest will be peanuts compared to the exercise.  Going into Spring will help with the motivation factor, no doubt.  It will be easier to get outside more frequently with the kids than it was these last weeks thru the holidays.  Good luck to us all!

Marta P.     Grass Valley, Ca

Picture
I am interested in this wellness challenge because I seem to do better when I have someone to report to.  I have lived in Grass Valley for 4 months now and I need motivational help to keep me exercising and doing some of the other things on the list, like writing in a journal, reading everyday.  I am hoping this will keep me going to achieve my health goals and more importantly get them written on paper where I have to do something about them.  I moved from Fremont, CA.  I raised 4 boys in that house, we were there for 29+ years.  I was born and raised in the Bay Area so Grass Valley is a big change for me.

Nancy S.     Carmichael, Ca

Hi, I'm Nancy! I have had a perpetual "diet mentality" for ages! It seems my dieting journey began shortly after giving birth to my first child nearly 20 years ago. This "diet mentality" was renewed after the birth of all my children. You can imagine what being pregnant 4 times can do to a body. To ever be my "pre-mom" weight is truly unrealistic.

I have had success with Weight Watchers, it does work.. (I have even lost 21 pounds this past year.) However, I have hit a plateau. I also need to be held accountable. It's so easy to be invisible with WW.

I want to have a "healthy mentality" from now on. If I lose some weight along the way, yea! If I feel healthier, even more so, yea! If I instill some great new lifestyle habits, awesome! I am sure that this 3-Month Wellness Challenge will help. I look forward to reading everyone's story and encouraging us all.

I am joining this challenge because I want to become healthy for myself and for my family.  I have tried many programs in the past, but this challenge stood out to me and tugged at my heart strings for some reason.  I want to accomplish a few goals that I have set aside for many years!

Lately, many of my eating choices have become lazy and mindless.  I have not been able to muster enough motivation on my own to make changes...and I am intrigued by many of the other aspects of this wellness challenge that have been illusive and "something I want to do SOMEDAY."  So, I am making it public and joining forces with others who also want to be healthy...in body, mind and soul!  And...I am ALWAYS up for some competition, let's just be honest!  I want that pot at the end!  :0

Rachel M.     Sacramento, Ca

Picture
Feb 1-April 30  I will have gained healthy habits, lost some weight, had friendly competition, maybe make a few new friends, have quality time with my family, gain energy.

So until then… I will continue to laugh when I struggle with the yummy stuff at potlucks, push myself to 24 hour fitness on Sunrise Blvd (2280 Sunrise Blvd. Gold River, CA 95670-4342 916.859.3400), try to motivate myself by looking at old pics of me, and appreciate my fiancé when he reminds me “ok, don’t fall apart b/c you had a lemon-bar today… you threw the cake away yesterday.”

Linda H.     Sacramento, Ca

Picture
I like the idea of participating in the Wellness Challenge because it is a whole body approach as opposed to just counting calories and working out.  I have two young and active children and one very cute and sweet husband.  I want to be healthy in all aspects for me, which will translate to me being my best for them.  It would be nice if in our next Christmas photo (the photo I have included is Christmas 2009) I felt comfortable being front and center in the photo rather than hiding behind one or both of the kids!  I look forward to my progress in becoming a healthier person in mind and body and supporting others on their journey.  Strength in numbers is a good thing!

I am interested in joining the challenge because I want to get the last and most difficult pounds off but more importantly, I want to challenge myself to a better life style and better choices.  Our church recently did a study on the pathway of a disciple.  The overall theme of the study is "direction, not intention determines destination".  My intentions have always been in the right place now I want to start in heading in the right direction.

Kathy:  We are in a major life transition stage: we are newly retired from self-employment and 12+ hour days and we are relocating to our dream house in a dream town.  Now is a perfect time to establish new priorities and habits.  Wellness is at the top of my list – “list” being somewhat the operative word here.  I do well with lists!

Dean:  to follow in a day or two.

I want to get in better shape and feel like I have energy again to make it through the day.  I want to be around for many years for my children and grandchildren.  I have some goals that I want to get done and I know that this will push me to do it.  I love that my parents are joining me in this journey too so we can change and live healthier lives together.

Why am I joining? Hmmmmm...well up till your email I haven't been living a very heathly life style...and now that I am working full time at a very physical job I am realizing quickly that if I want to do this job long term (which I do...I love it) I need to start taking better care of myself in general, not just that but also for my family. I also like the fact that this wasn't a "diet challenge" in fact it was more of a "life" challenge so not only will I be working on eating better ect. but I will be improving the inside too...which is most important. Oh and lets not forget the prize at the end...I really just want to beat all of you and win the pot! (did I mention I am competitive?)

The most inviting thing about this challenge is that it is about overall well-being.  I am hoping that through this challenge I will become less lazy and more motivated about getting things done.  I have always had personal goals of exercising regularly, eating better, getting organized, spending time in the Word and journaling.  Through this Wellness Challenge I am hoping to create a habit, or better yet - a change in lifestyle, of doing all of these items.

Jim
:  I'm doing this so I can support Jamie and encourage her in exercising. Also I'm going to be doing Death Valley again this year and want to be stronger than I was 3 years ago when I did it and thought this would be helpful in my training.

Janeen T.     Sacramento, Ca

I'm participating in the Challenge to increase overall wellness on all levels - emotional, mental,  spiritual.  I've focused more energy in the past on physical wellness and have neglected other areas.  I think that the Challenge will help me to realize that wellness exists beyond the gym and should be more integrative.

Kirsten P.     Gold River, Ca

I am joining because I need to lose 30 lbs.  I need the accountability to eat healthy and exercise but also the personal goals and accountability to continue to seek and grow in the Lord!  I think this program is awesome and I am so glad that you are taking this on!  I am very appreciative!

Nancy F.     Roseville, Ca

Picture
The invitation to join this program couldn't be more timely.  I've sensed God nudging me  toward a healthier lifestyle which would include curbing my insatiable sweet tooth.  With a family history of diabetes and heart disease, I'd prefer to chart a new course!   I'm married to my best friend and blessed with three incredible kids to stay healthy for.  I've never been a dieter and am drawn to this program since it inspires changes in lifestyle rather than leaning on a diet crutch.  Participating will require me to be intentional about developing better habits and provide the accountability to keep me motivated.  Now just to break my chocolate chip cookie habit!!

I am participating in this challenge because I am not eating the healthiest I should be. I feel this challenge could help me do that.

Bernice K.     Grass Valley, Ca

I am joining the Challenge for my health. I am in my early fifties and I don't want to be FAT and Fifty. I have no control over  my age but I can control my weight. Another reason is that all three of my sisters and my mother take high blood pressure medication and three out of the four are diabetic . Weight plays a major roll in these health issues. I have always struggled with an added 5 pounds up to my forties but now it is 10-15 pounds. I  have seen Sherron lose 40 pounds on this Challenge and she is a great motivator for me. She inspires me to be a better me. Thank you Jennifer for taking the time to help others like me.

I found out about the Wellness Challenge through my friend Amanda Patterson.  This sounded like the perfect opportunity to get me motivated into doing the more positive things in life that I need to be doing for myself as well as others.   I'm looking forward to next three months!!

I have read some of the other participants reasons and they are so wonderfully compelling and well said..... I'm afraid my reasons are less poetic.... Why am I joining....hmmmm, well, because I can (and am grateful for that all in itself), because it's a wonderful opportunity to intentionally go about things differently than I did yesterday (which I love), because it's a new experience....in short, for one of my favorite reasons in the world to anything....why not???  Thanks for doing this Jen, to take the time to have put this together for what is largely a group of total strangers, I think you're amazing!

My friend, Jayme, told me about the wellness challenge and it sounded like a great program!  I am so excited to get started!  It's all the things I know I should be doing for me, but lack the discipline to be consistent in.  And my love for sweets and junk food
in general, well,  I'm sincerely hoping after awhile all those cravings go out the window.....along with the unwanted pounds I have aquired!

What a great experience this will be.  I have to thank my sister-in-law, Jamie Byron for thinking of me and inviting me to join all of you folks.  I am so looking forward to once again reclaiming me; mind, body, spirit!  It has been awhile!  I wish all of you luck.  Tally-ho!

I'm excited to participate in the Wellness Challenge because I love the idea of...WELLNESS!  As my friend Sarah pointed out, "these are fabulous changes and if you manage to implement most of them on most days....just think how far ahead of the game you'll be in three months".  That resonated with me, so here I am!

I am joining the challenge because I have so many time sucks through the day and I am hoping to gain better habits and get more productive with my free time. I plan on getting rid of clutter and getting organized. So those of you who know me, email me throughout the day to make sure I am not sitting at the computer on People.com all day.  I love this challenge because it isn't about just the weight, it is about wellness and maybe if I can get the other areas in control, everything else will follow.

I believe that having set goals to achieve in my daily life that focus on me and my health are just what I need to be a better person for myself and all the loved ones in my life.  Thanks Sara B. for introducing me to challenge!

Hi! I'm Colleen and I'm doing this challenge to, hopefully, get better eating habits and become more energized. I think having a goal like this challenge will certainly help motivate me for the next three months. I look forward to it with excitement and yes, a little apprehension.

Leslie H.     Citrus Heights, Ca

Picture
Hi, my name is Leslie and I am excited to begin this challenge, hoping to come away with some life changing new habits!  I believe the biggest "challenge" for me will be to overcome an "all or nothing" mentality.  My goal is to do the best I can every day and to give myself grace when all doesn't go as planned; to make sure I don't give up, but to keep up the good work even after those days that might not feel like a "success" at the end, knowing that habits take time to become just that - habits!  Thank you Jen and Sarah for extending the invitation to take part in the Wellness Challenge!

Megan V.     Citrus Heights, Ca

Hello, my name is Megan, and the reason I am doing this is that I am highly motivated to start an altogether better and healthier life style, not to just take this as the three months it is, but view it as a positive change- this challenge came as a blessing at the perfect time and i am so excited to begin!

I love the idea of people offering encouragement, community and accountability to help each other become the best version of ourselves that we can be.  And I LOVE that it is such a well-rounded approach to health and weight loss, because it is NEVER just about the food...or food and exercise for that matter.  I want to be as healthy and "ready for life" as I can be for my amazing husband (Heath) and two awesome boys (Elijah & Shiloh).  Another huge motivating factor is to experience CONSISTENCY in all of the areas of life that are included in this challenge.  I am a person who is very passionate about healthy food and exercise, and I get very excited to start new things, but get derailed easily and need the help of a community when I am struggling.  I am so excited to go on this journey with all of you!

The reason for joining this challenge is because just recently I had a baby. My baby girl is already 4 months old and I have been consumed with taking care of her and getting use to having a newborn again after a 12 year break.  I found this challenge to be just what I need and I have decided to just be happy with any of the ten I accomplish each day. I’m really excited to bring back some of the basics that I have been missing lately. I’m actually adding 2 more to my list of challenges which I have been wanting to be more diligent about….others might not struggle with these simple tasks but for me I’m adding a daily floss and washing my face before bed..would I be eligible for extra credit??LOL

This challenge came as an answer to prayer.  I really want to do all these things as a part of my daily life~with exception to the no sugar each day...I'm actually fine with one sweet treat a day...but will give it a shot.  I need something outside myself & bigger than myself to motivate me to these good things.  I'm looking forward to what this will do in my life and how God will use this.  I'm excited about that, and rising to a 'challenge'.  Thank you Jen for putting this together & thank you Sarah for inviting me.

I have joined the challenge because I have no drive or discipline to take care of myself and I really need to.  I know that it is going to really hard to teach and train myself to having better habits but in the end I will be healthier, happier and maybe even thinner.

When Caitlyn told me about this wellness challenge I pretty much jumped at the idea! I'm a runner in training so eating healthy and exercising is just what my body needs right now. And as for the benefits in my relationships with God & my friends, I can't wait to start :)

For a year I have been trying to lose ten pounds. I have attended Weight Watchers and continue to attend. However, I needed an additional push to learn to control eating sweets and drinking an occasional glass of wine. This program not only provided that, it also included an emphasis on personal time and goals. I am more consistent with my Bible reading, and exercise because I have the additional motivation. The one thing that I need to really work on is journal writing. I haven't done that for so long that I don't even know how.

Hello All, I'm excited to be a part of this challenge because I am looking for balance in my life.  It often seems as if life is getting to be one big blur, and I'm hoping to add vignettes!  While I could certainly stand to lose some weight, I'm focusing on bring balance to my life thru the journaling and reading aspects.  Weight is important, but I don't know that I can do that without the balance being there.  I am married and have 2 children; and both kids happen to have Celiac and have a Primary Immunity Disease.  It makes life a little different in our world, but it's very good! Looking forward to being a part of the group doing this challenge, and bringing balance to light in our world!
